Mum's the Chef is a project of Skills To Donate - a social enterprise aimed at tackling long term unemployment for women and young people, who find themsleves faced with barriers to employment through the lack of: work experience, qualifications and poor English language skills.
We have focused on what they can do, not what they cannot, and by harnessing their existing culinary skills, Mum's the Chef has enabled over 40 women get an NVQ Level 1 Qualification in Food Preparation and Cooking. Candidates that failed their initial literacy assessment went on to pass all their written assessments. We have had a 100% pass rate!
Mum's the Chef Catering was then launched in 2013, not only as place of employment for women but a service that delivers delicious, home-made food from a range of international cuisines.
Currently the company provides lunch platters, evening spreads and on site catering across London, with the hope to extend our services and the womens skills to events around the UK.
We also continue to run an NVQ Level 2 course in Professional Cookery alongside the Level 1 in Food Preparation and Cooking.
